A soil test comes in very handy and can help determine nutrient deficiencies and soil pH. Most vegetables do best in slightly acidic to neutral soil (6.0-7.0). If the soil is not within this range, nutrients can get locked up or decrease availability to plants. Collect sample from 5-7 areas of the planting site or garden bed.
