One of the ways we make sure we’re providing the best care for our resident birds is by teaching them to care for themselves! We weigh our birds every day, as weight is one tool to ensure the health of a bird. To be able to do this, we teach our birds to perch on a scale. This video shows a Barred Owl learning how to weigh themself. Notice how on the second turn, he spends longer on the scale; we call that a success!
