This young Great Egret has come a long way since he fell out of the nest in Jacksonville. A Good Samaritan brought him to our veterinarian in Saint Augustine after she watched for more than a day to see if the parents were feeding him on the ground. When she was sure he had been abandoned and was growing weaker, she brought him in. He must be hand fed a highly nutritious fish that must be massaged down his long gullet to make sure he doesn’t choke. Shorebird populations have declined drastically
