He stepped out of the Apollo 11 lunar module and onto the Moon's surface, in an area called the 'Sea of Tranquility. On July 20, 1969, the spacecraft Apollo 11 commanded by Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon. Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the Moon's surface almost 7 hours after the landing.
