Asha, rescued in March 2021, was an orphaned calf found in Volusia county. During her rescue and prior to arriving at the Zoo’s Manatee Critical Care Center, her skin began to slough off the right side of her body. The cause is unknown, but her skin most likely came off due to cold stress. This was a unique case, as many vets, both at the Zoo and our other partners, had never experienced something so severe. The remaining dead skin had to later be surgically removed in order for it to fully heal

The male calf was born on the morning of Aug. 18 and just made his grand debut in the African Savanna today. Standing at 5’9” and weighing 158 lbs. at birth, he is already making big strides in the world! Little Finn is bonding well with his mom Kala and seems to be enjoying being on habitat with the rest of the herd!
