Memento Mori. The Latin phrase literally means “remember death”. It is an artistic or symbolic reminder that the inevitably of death is what gives our lives purpose and meaning. Throughout Abercorn Cemetery there are many graves dating as far back as the 17th Century. Many of these graves have symbolic reminders of death, so what lessons were our forebear’s trying to pass on? Angels on a gravestone represent guardianship of someone’s soul and protection on their journey to the afterlife. Cherubs
