These Atlas moth caterpillars sport large, rubbery spikes along their back with a powdery coating that are designed to make them seem unappetizing to predators. While they hatch out of their eggs at only an eighth of an inch, they can quickly grow to up to five inches in length. We have a new turtle in the gardens! Meet Slippy.🐢 Mississippi map turtles can be found in rivers in the mid-eastern USA, ranging as far south as Texas. Slippy was most likely purchased as a pet as a hatchling, but these turtles can live for over 30 years and reach a maximum size of 10 inches long which makes them a serious commitment to care for.
