Did you know? The Old Jail in St. Augustine, Florida was completed in 1891 and built by the same company that would build Alcatraz prison! It is said that many prisoners died in this jail due to disease, violence, and malnutrition. A doctor was only known to visit on execution days. While there are only 8 recorded executions, it’s believed there are many more unrecorded deaths. Ripley’s Believe it or Not Odditorium in St. Augustine, Florida is housed in the Castle Warden, built as a winter home for William Warden and his family. Completed in 1887, this moorish castle style home was renovated into a hotel in the 1940s by Pulitzer prize winning writer Majorie Kinnan Rawlings and her husband Norton Baskin.
