In order to raise our Main Sail we need to haul on two different halyards because we are a gaff rigged schooner!⚓️ Both halyards are needed in order to properly control the shape of the sail. ⛵️ One halyard is used to raise the throat of the gaff (the part closest to the mast), while the other halyard is used to raise the peak of the gaff (the part furthest from the mast). ☀️ By using two halyards, we are able to adjust the tension on each end of the gaff independently.
