Sometimes I make pots by wrapping clay around wooden blocks. It’s a particularly good way to work at this cold and damp time of year when the clay takes longer to dry out. When I work like this I feel the boundary between making forms and surface mark making is blurred. The texture making possibilities are increased because the wooden block remains inside and supports the soft clay while I bash it and push things into it. Pulling the newspaper out felt like I was doing a conjuring trick. #slabbu
