A galactic power couple! These two galaxies are NGC 4302 (the one seen edge-on) and NGC 4298 (tilted). Both are approximately 55 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices! This pair of galaxies is actually fairly similar in terms of content and structure, even though they look different – that’s just because they’re angled at different positions in the sky. Astronomers initially thought it stretched about 30,000 light-years across, but two faint spiral arms (not visible in this image) were recently discovered outside of its core region that extend far out into space.
