Did you know our Museum’s Douglas SBD-2P Dauntless aircraft was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise as part of a Scouting Squadron? As a dive bomber, our Dauntless performed air combat operations in the Pacific Theater and aircraft pilot qualifications in Lake Michigan. Lost in a 1944 pilot training mishap, she remained at the bottom of the Lake Michigan until 65 years later when Fred Turner and A&T Recovery worked together to make her recovery possible.
