The West Highland White Terrier (commonly shortened to Westie) is a breed of dog from Scotland with a distinctive white harsh coat and somewhat soft white undercoat. It is a medium-sized terrier, though with longer legs than other Scottish terriers. It has a white double coat of fur which fills out the dog's face, giving it a rounded appearance.

The West Highland White Terrier Club of America is a collection of Westie fanciers from all over the USA, Canada and abroad. Whether a Westie wins at Westminster or is a professional couch potato, we strive to provide up-to-date information for the care, training and appreciation of our Little White Dogs. We protect and promote our special breed.

Our club provides an organization where we can associate with other people who love Westies. It is a place where we can learn new things about Westies, share our experiences and their antics, whether they are couch potatoes or performers in the ring. Our club was formed by a group of Westie lovers in 1951.

The West Highland White Terrier (WHWT) or Westie, as it’s affectionately known, shares similar ancestry to its distant cousins the Scottish, Dandy Dinmont and Cairn Terriers. As its name suggests, the breed originates from the Scottish Highlands; there’s not a huge amount known about exactly how it came to be, although there are a few stories.

We applaud our hundreds of dedicated volunteers, adopters and loving Westie owners who give back to the breed. Our breed gives such joy, laughter and often tears along the paw-path of life. Our organization has a long association with the WHWT Club of CA and WHWT Club of America.
