Biblically speaking, a prophet is someone who speaks for God. He may prophesy, or foretell the future, if God gives him a prophecy, but communicating prophesies is not his primary ministry. His primary ministry is to speak God’s truth and warnings to the people. What follows is a list of the prophets in the Bible.

Nehemiah 6:12-14 reveals that Shemaiah was a false prophet and Noadiah was a false prophetess. That is all that we know about Noadiah. That is the only information Scripture reveals about her. Wife of Isaiah (Isaiah 8:3) The wife of Isaiah was also a prophetess according to Isaiah 8:3. Here is Isaiah 8:3-4.

The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.” Deuteronomy 18:19-22 (NASB) Here God declares in greater detail that when a true prophet declares something will happen, it will come true. But notice that God says that a true prophet will speak “in My Name.” New Revelation From Teachers or Prophets

But when Ezekiel’s wife died, Yahweh called the prophet by his first name for the first and only time in the pages of Scripture. Imagine Ezekiel hearing Yahweh say his name — Ezekiel! You can find that occasion in Ezekiel 24:24. I wonder how this flesh and blood man felt. I hope it gave the prophet great joy to know that Yahweh loved him.

The False Prophet. Jesus does not sound very accepting of other points of view. Many will agree with Jesus’ principle but few want to apply this principle because “that would be unloving” or “judgmental.” In recent times a nationally known ministry has said that Christians need to minimize doctrine and emphasize love for one another.

Thus a prophet will speak the oracles of God (Nahum 1:1; Habakkuk 1:1; Malachi 1:1). As a result, all of the Old Testament books are prophetic.The same is true of the New Testament books. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 is a great summary.

The prophet spoke a message of coming judgment against the Assyrian capital of Nineveh (Nahum 1:1; 2:8; 3:7). But the question we are concerned with is who was Nahum? Therefore, we will examine the date of Nahum’s ministry, the city of his birth, and the region of his ministry.

This strongly indicates that Isaiah was a true prophet of God. This also means that God spoke through him, and the book of Isaiah is truth. Deuteronomy 18:20-22 says, “‘But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’

1 Chronicles 1:3 and Luke 3:37 do not provide any additional information but simply use the name Enoch in a genealogical list. Jude 14 refers to Enoch as a prophet when it refers to a prophecy. But Hebrews 11:5 is the next significant passage about Enoch’s life because it says,

Without a doubt! Soon he was back in action, once more the bold, faithful prophet who stood up against the wickedness of false worship. If we likewise take to heart the inspired words of God, “the comfort from the Scriptures,” we will be able to imitate the faith of Elijah. —Rom. 15:4.
