W8x15 Composite Steel Beam - Structural engineering general
Feb 11, 2010 · We have designed a floor system using a W8x15 composite steel beam. We have ran the numbers and the beam is adequate. Does anybody know why the Composite W Shape Table 3-19 (pg 3-189) in AISC13 starts at a W10. I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something and that a W8x15 is acceptable.
Temporary W8x15 connection to HSS 12x4 - Eng-Tips
Sep 13, 2007 · I need to design an attachment of a temporary safety beam (W8x15) between two HSS 12x4 (flat side)columns for elevator installation. I was thinking of using a WT at each end to bolt into the web of the wide flange. After elevator installation, the saftey beam and the WT have to be removed to attach the elevator guide rails.
Determining Unbraced Length of Compression Flange
Aug 25, 2010 · Without doing any calculations, I would agree with StructuralEIT that a bolt 2" from top and 2" from bottom of a W8x15 constitutes lateral bracing for either flange provided that the clip angle is thick enough. A brace is deemed adequate if it can provide 2% of the compression in the flange to be braced without excessive deflection.
garage hoist i-beam size requirement 2 - Eng-Tips
Apr 29, 2003 · Pulling motors out of the race car again? W8x15 should work quite nicely. It has a little extra flange width to pull off the bottom flange. Provide some sort of restraints at the ends to prevent rotation of the beam. That will be $125, please.
Connections Design and Shop Drawings - Eng-Tips
Jan 27, 2017 · It's a 6-story building, first floor is commercial and residential floors are above. I am attaching here first floor (commercial) framing plan. EOR design loads is LL 100 psf for this floor and DL as per material (he calls for 4" LWC) so let's say overall DL is around 65 psf. so it's roughly 170 psf for 14' long w8x15..Seems too small for me.
Steel Beam to replace precast lintel - Eng-Tips
Dec 28, 2018 · I need to remove the existing precast lintel and 2 courses of 8" cmu's to raise the 10'6" wide opening to 96 1/6". The poured cmu bond beam shall remain. I am planning to install a W8x15 A500 Gr. B beam 12' long. This is a residential house with a second wood frame floor above and shingle roof...
Joist Span Dimensions Question - Eng-Tips
Jan 21, 2022 · The pan forms were at least somewhat standardized, so that's perhaps part of it, as in you're looking for the depth of a W8x15 which has known values, for example. What I think varied was mostly the web width and the reinforcing in the joist.
Doubling smaller I-beams in a bearing wall removal project
Dec 16, 2003 · A W8x15 (there is no 14) has a moment of inertia, Ix = 48 in^4 A W6x20 has a moment of inertia, Ix = 41.5 in^4. So two S4's do not come close. For general stiffness, your beam should be at least (span in feet)/2 in inches of depth (a 12' span should require a 6" beam)
Floor live load for church storage loft 1 - Eng-Tips
May 22, 2009 · I'll probably be notching them 1/2" to bear on the flange of the W8x15 steel beam that supports them on the open side, and I'll likely use a ledger with a 2x cleat on the other end, since I don't think I can make hangers work with the 78 degree angle at the (concrete block) wall.
Cutting off bar joists; replace bottom with I-beam 2 - Eng-Tips
Apr 28, 2016 · I'm the staff engineer for a smallish contractor. A customer has come to us needing more head room over a machine they want to bring in. There are 30" bar joists in the area, and they were hoping to replace those with 6" beams if possible. My analysis shows they need at least a W8x15 (it's a 20' span), and they said they can work with that.
