2008年10月13日 · Common White oak and Swamp Chestnut acorns contain less tannin, thus are "sweeter" and are more preferred by all forms of wildlife. The common White Oak (Quercus alba) is a common tree and is found all over GA (except rare in pine flatwoods). Natural range of Swamp Chestnut is from the Middle Piedmont southward.

2020年9月21日 · We have several around the house and the acorns that fall are huge but nothing eats them. Several years ago hunting in Meriwether county pretty much the same thing. The leaves are very similar to the swamp white oak but they are not the same tree. Quercus Michauxii (swamp white oak) and Quercus Montana (chestnut oak).

2008年10月13日 · You well describe the Eastern Red Oak (Quercus borealis), often called the Northern Red Oak. The bark contains vertical streaks of silvery gray color. Also the acorns are somewhat streaked. Sounds like you have found you a honey hole.

2022年5月2日 · White oak and Swamp Chestnut oak are definitely preferred over Water oak. My only problem is Water oaks out number the others by ten To one on my property. I have a couple of Water oaks that literally pave the ground underneath them with acorns each year and the acorns are left alone until about January when all other acorns have been consumed.

2022年5月2日 · Swamp chestnut acorns usually drop a little later than white oaks, and seem to dump hard and fast from what I have seen. 2: White Oak- the most well known of all oaks, universally accepted as the most preferred of all acorns for deer, second only to swamp chestnuts in my experience.

Which goes against common knowledge, but I see it and have it on camera as well. I speculate that it comes down to taste, and perhaps there are factors that influence the flavor of the nut, and as they change the taste changes ...

2005年7月15日 · I would assume these are Chestnut Oak acorns and not Swamp Chestnut Oak acorns. I hunt in Oglethorpe County and use to hunt in neighboring Green County and the deer will flat eat up the chestnut oak acorns in these areas, which I should more properly refer to as Swamp Chestnut Oak acorns. Am I correct in these observations and assumptions? George
