Jan 6, 2012 · Sauger won't have any white on the lower tail lobe or anal fins, a Saugeye will! Saugeye is a Hybrid cross between the Sauger & Walleye. Usually, at least in Oklahoma, the Sauger will be much darker whereas the Walleye & Saugeye will be more Bronze/Copper in color!

In other words, if it looks like a Saugeye, then it's a Saugeye, but if it looks like a Walleye, it still MAY be a Saugeye. This should only apply in waters where Walleye coexist with either Sauger or Saugeye. In that case the only way to tell is to get tests done.

Also, the dorsal fin, whether it’s spotted or not. The question is what the distinguishing marks on a saugeye are. I think the way to check is the dorsal fin.
