Atlanta, February 12, 2025 – Sam Yi, the owner of the renowned jazz venue, The Churchil Grounds at the Fox Theatre and The Velvet Note in Alpharetta, Georgia, has passed away. He was known for creating a warm and inviting space for jazz music lovers and musicians alike.

The son of Sanghu Yi and Sangson Yi, Hyong Kun “Sam” Yi was born in Seoul, South Korea, and came to California as an 11-year-old with his parents who had work visas with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
