State Route 162 (SR 162) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that runs roughly west–east through the Coast Ranges and the Sacramento Valley to the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

WSDOT routinely reviews rural intersections on the state highway system to find ways to reduce potential crashes to identify locations that are at the highest risk for severe crashes. The intersection of SR 162 and Orville Road located south of the City of Orting in Pierce County was identified as a location for safety improvement consideration.

Unsafe conditions face High Cedars residents and golf course customers in accessing and egressing SR162. Like so many of the 140 uncontrolled access points between Sumner and Orting, safely and timely entry onto this conjested highway is becoming more dangerous.
