It's typical, generally it's because your computer has some sort of bloatware "magic audio processing" interface that is supposed to talk to one of the drivers. Like some Dolby or SST or DTS software or whatever. It's a bit of a pain but if the driver(s) works, it works.

The rhythm circuit doesn't always want to work, but I just need to get in there and reflow some solder (the wiring is pretty crowded). When it doesn't work it acts as a nice kill switch. I bought it when they first came out and it's one of many in the guitar pile.
