Adding onto this, years later someone eventually just contacted Iizuka on Facebook and got the answer that Nazo was a prototype design for Super Sonic in Sonic X ...

For those who dont know Nazo first appeared in the first japanese trailer for Sonic X. Izuka said that he was supposed to be Super Sonic but that cant be it since Super Sonic is introduced and shown before he appears in the trailer.

Nazo isn’t a fan OC. He was an unused super form that Sonic was intended to use during Sonic X at some point but the form was scrapped and was never used. Chakra-X decided to use that form and treat it as a character for his fan animation. Nothing about Nazo is inspired by DBZ because Nazo doesn’t belong to Chakra-X.

I mean, Nazo just shouldn't be canon period considering the entire character is basically just the fandom's equivalent of a typical DBZ movie villain; powerful evil guy who appears, is defeated and never gets mentioned again afterwards. Flynn's also said he doesn't want to touch Nazo, either, so there's also that snag.

Then Nazo and frieza attack everyone and Goku and vegeta get rekked but, previously taught Shadow and Sonic the fusion dance. So they do it aaaaand BOOM!! The rest is history. What about hyper shadic I hear you say? I say they should finish nazo as hyper shadic by taking nazo's perfect form from him and then kamehameha'ing him away. You know!
