The galaxy NGC 6946 belongs to the Hubble class SAB (rs)cd. Its disk is inclined by 38° with respect to the sky plane. This galaxy has a distance median value of 5.5 Mpc. It hosts two "magnetic arms" between the optical spiral arms that are best seen in polarized radio emission at 6.2 cm and 3.5 cm.
