Interlude: Where Wisdom Is Found - There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted.

28 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it. 2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone. 3 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

Job 28 There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined. Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore. Mortals put an end to the darkness; they search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness.

For ore in the darkness and the shadow of death. They swing to and fro. And it contains gold dust. Nor has the falcon’s eye seen it. Nor has the fierce lion passed over it. He overturns the mountains at the roots. And his eye sees every precious thing. What is hidden he brings forth to light. 12 “But where can wisdom be found?

28 And He said to man, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ”

Job 28 serves as a poignant reminder of the distinction between human knowledge and divine wisdom. While mankind may be able to extract and manipulate the resources of the earth, wisdom and understanding remain beyond our grasp unless granted by God.
