I recently (finally) acquired a pair of JBL L166 A speakers, in their original boxes. Speakers are mint condition with refoamed woofers. However, the woofers looked slightly different. When I opened up the cabinets, one of the woofers is marked "122A", and the other is "126A". it seems obvious that the 126A woofer is not original.

The L166 is a better speaker in most respects, but I don't really like it as much. Perhaps it's important to disclose the fact that my first pair of JBLs ever was a brand new set of L100 Century speakers (with the in line drivers) and I still have them to this day.

Oct 17, 2013 · HI to all, I own since new a pair of JBL L166 Horizon whose Xover has been modified to accept a bi-amp set up. In facts an electronic Xover cuts @ 1000Hz the lower way from the upper so a Solid State 50W amp drives directly the woofer while a Vacuum Tube 40W amp the mid/tweeter. Obviously the passive Xover @ 6000Hz is retained.

JBL actually lists the 128H (128H-1) as the recommended replacement for the L166 when the 122A is not available, so I would feel that at least on some level that it has their blessing. Using the 128H over the 122A should have a number of advantages, including twice the power handling, longer Xmax, no alnico demagnetization worries, etc.

Hi everyone! Recently acquired a pair of JBL L166. One of them had a damaged 066 that I would like to remove and replaced. I already sourced a 066 and itÂ’s on the way. During the disassembly I removed the three retaking screws and the front and to my surprise the speaker is still firmly resting in the cabinet.
