Greatcoats - The Fedora Lounge
Nov 23, 2015 · Now that I think back a friend of mine's roommate had a black Soviet cadet bandsman's greatcoat which was extremely heavy and thick - that was well made. But that would have been from an academy or something and not quite rank-and-file. As for quality, I suggest reading about the Soviet experience in Afghanistan.
Belgian Military GreatCoat Review | The Fedora Lounge
Oct 9, 2007 · The greatcoat itself is a very thick wool and quite heavy. In fact, the weight of the coat bent the hook of a wire coat hanger straight after it was hung up on it for a day. It will most definitely keep you warm in a cold blizzard. One surprise, at least to me, was the color of the coat.
How to properly clean and care for a 1950s greatcoat?
Nov 15, 2014 · Hi guys, back again with my greatcoat questions. I couldn't find anything comprehensive about how people actually clean and care for their coats, so I thought I might ask. I have on my hands a British Civil Defense Greatcoat, made in 1952 by Raper & Bainbridge.
RAF greatcoat - The Fedora Lounge
Nov 25, 2008 · [\QUOTE]I recently sold a Crombie RAF Officers Greatcoat dated 1956 which had turned up cuffs, and a half belt on the back with 2 brass buttons (one on each end)[/QUOTE] BTW, the post war design had the soft epaulettes also, just like in the previous photo, fyi
Repairing greatcoat buttons and buttonholes - The Fedora Lounge
Nov 3, 2015 · So I've come into possession of a British CD greatcoat, and the buttons and buttonholes need some serious work. For one, the buttons were sewn, or re-sewn, in a manner that shifted one side of the coat downward half an inch to an inch. I can do this particular repair no problem. It's the buttonholes that are causing me concern.
West German Greatcoat? - The Fedora Lounge
Nov 13, 2019 · I was doing some research on Ebay and I noticed there were many West German tunics that had the same collar (the top portion was a lighter green, like the greatcoat in the pictures given). Nov 13, 2019
Any way to soften a stiff wool greatcoat? | The Fedora Lounge
Mar 9, 2010 · I just acquired a WWII RAF WO Greatcoat (also a really cool Belgian Greatcoat). It's awesome but of course VERY heavy, stiff and scratchy. Is there any way to "break it in"? I've read some posts around the net about soaking wool in hair conditioner but I definitely don't want to try it without getting some first hand advice first! Thanks!
1940 Swedish Military Greatcoat. FREE SHIPPING & OFFERS …
Dec 13, 2015 · And one of the items produced was this wonderful greatcoat. Issued by the Swedish military in 1940 (it carries the military production stamp noting its 1940 origin in the lining) it is unlikely that this coat saw active service; its rear half-belt still appears to carry the original basting for storage in its pocket prior to issue.
N.F.S. Greatcoat... knowledge needed | The Fedora Lounge
Nov 14, 2013 · A pea coat is much shorter - car-coat or even jacket length (it should, of course, cover the jacket if one is worn underneath). A greatcoat is long enough to cover the knee, so the excellent coat you have been writing about is a greatcoat.
RAF GREAT COAT QUESTION | The Fedora Lounge
Dec 29, 2008 · I think we are at cross-purposes here. My suggestion was that you do what many re-enactors do and modify a most war ('New Pattern') RAF greatcoat to be like the wartime RAF issue greatcoat. I have absolutely no knowledge ow what a Swedish greatcoat is like and so would be unable to recommend whether it would or not be suitable.
