I don't use the F keys on my Touchbar, however— it appears the F9 is an advance key—which you would have to be using the appropriate interface to have it active... What's curious is that my version of FCE was current with the keyboard I use, so I wonder why the F9 key doesn't do what the manual says it should. Again, (with a tip from Tom Wolsky) I've discovered that +F9 will do the desired insert.

Oct 10, 2010 · While holding fn, the "louder" volume key will act as F12 and bring up Dashboard. The "fast forward" key will function as F9 and trigger Exposé. If you have checked Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys in the keyboard system preferences, then you can temporarily access the media keys by holding the fn key while pressing them.

Nov 29, 2017 · When I hit the globe keyboard key, only Emoji's are provided. There needs to be a pop-up row of F1-F12 function keys to make this a complete keyboard solution. Apple please make the F1-F12 keys available. I'm using the US English keyboard (defaults). Thanks. Mike

Does anyone know how I can activate the fast forward F9 button by say increments of 5 / 10 / 15 seconds or F7 backwards on OS or OSX - how would I configure this whether via the Keyboard shortcut under system preferences or a third party plugin?

Apr 8, 2014 · Press fn/F11 to reduce sound and fn/F12 to increase sound. (These keys will vary according to OS X version). Also, if you like, you can go to System Preferences/Keyboard and uncheck the box for "use all F1, F2 keys etc as standard function keys." Then you do not have to use the fn key with F9, F10, F11 to control the sound.
