CHLP assists individuals with mental health, developmental, physical, and visual disabilities; people living with HIV/AIDS and their families; and, in certain issues, organizations that serve people with disabilities.

CHLP empowers clients to live independently and contribute to their communities by providing legal support in areas like Social Security benefits, housing advocacy, family law, healthcare access, consumer law, and discrimination.

Successful CHLP suit ensures that community residences for people with disabilities may operate in residential districts. CHLP advocacy leads to amending the NJ Law Against Discrimination to apply to people with mental health disabilities.

Founded in 1976, the Community Health Law Project (CHLP) is a statewide not-for-profit advocacy and legal service organization which provides legal representation and advocacy services to low-income individuals with disabilities and the frail elderly.

CHLP recently partnered with Family Connections, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in northern New Jersey. Family Connections will identify which consumers need legal services and advocacy.
