On January 15, 1991—at a time when there are 4,500 homeless individuals in Westchester County—The Bridge Fund opens its doors with a single employee. In its first year, it issues 132 loans and grants.

In 2020, The Bridge Fund arguably experienced the most challenging crisis in its 31-year history. Its mission has always been to prevent homelessness among the working poor.

Just before the pandemic hit New York City, The Bridge Fund launched the Income Growth Initiative to help prepare our unemployed and underemployed clients for the new economy. A worker is UNEMPLOYED if they are actively seeking a paid job but cannot find one.
