Nov 12, 2015 · Correct LL-01 for high sulfur fuel areas and LL-04 for low sulfur fuel areas - world wide. BMW NA has even gone so far as to state in writing that LL-04 oils can not be used in U.S. gas engine vehicles. There was a link to this BMW doc online in the 3 series forum at one time.

Apr 29, 2018 · The 1M is spec'd for BMW LL-01 5W-30 ACEA A3/B4 – API SN A year ago BMW released the twin power 0W-40 oil for the F80 M3. It is also an LL-01 ACEA A3/B4 oil BUT they don't list the API rating. I want to go with a thicker oil and was thinking of going to MOTUL but would be nice to stay in BMW family.

Aug 1, 2019 · I looked at again just now and found a different factor. Apparently BMW introduced a new test for LL-01 for the newer turbo 4 cylinder engine. The thread was talking about Mobil 1 but included a supposed quote from Mobil saying they haven't passed the new test yet. That also does not make me scared of using it in my NA 6 cylinder.

Mar 19, 2015 · Every oil that is certified to BMW LL-01 is a good oil, otherwise it would not meet the spec. Everything else is just brand preference and marketing BS (Shell, Castrol, Mobil, etc are all pretty much the same, as for Motul, it is no better than the others, just cost more).

May 7, 2012 · That IS the correct oil. That is the oil that is made by Castrol (in the USA) and sold thru the BMW dealers. It is a LL-1 rated oil. In the OP you were talking about German (made)Castrol so that is why the pictures are different. Btw... oil refill is 6.5 liters or 6.9 quarts, with the filter. Dack
