Sep 8, 2020 · There are currently three AV1 encoders to choose from: aom / libaom. SVT-AV1. rav1e. I would recommend to avoid rav1e for the time being, even tho their github page suggest being "The fastest and safest AV1 encoder". afaik it's only advatage is grain retention (which also seems to be half broken)

However, none of the AV1 codecs I tested enabled adaptive quantization by default, so what these tuning mechanisms were actually doing was unclear.

Dec 30, 2020 · Honestly, I am not stuck using AV1. It is just a preference since I heard that it would be better for the job (SCC), and I understand the specification better compared to AVC/HEVC. What is your take on all those standards, is MPEG2 really that much easier to learn and apply compared to the newer?
