Nov 1, 2020 · Above the water pump, it's stamped T0428TSD. I couldn't get to the casting date so it's either a 75 or 77 truck 454 from a C20 or C30. The block appears to have been originally orange and then painted blue at some point. With it being a Mark IV block and the size of the holes, is it LIKELY that it is a 4 bolt block? How good is the 361959 casting?

I have an '87 454 2 bolt block that I can use for this application. How is the quality control of a later block such as my '87, compared to say a 70-71 454? I mean things like core shift, nickel content, etc.

Oct 8, 2009 · High nickel makes the block stonger. The 289 512 445 are all good HD blocks that can hold 1000 H/P if preped right. If you look at the pic 3013 in my sig. notice the gold tint of the block. Thats the nickel.
