statistics - Boxplot Skewness - Mathematics Stack Exchange
2017年3月23日 · Keeping in mind the rules, in this boxplot the median falls to the right of the center of the box, thus its distribution is negatively skewed. But I also can see that the right line is larger than the left line, thus "according to the rules" the distribution is positively skewed. How do I know the real skewness. Thanks in advance.
statistics - Interpretation of the given box and whisker plot ...
2018年9月8日 · Students age group is 2-9. There are more students with age 6-7 & 7-8.5. The average student age is 7. Since each group (Least-Q1, Q1-Q2, Q2-Q3 & Q3-Greatest) in box and whisker plot is roughly equally divided; thus the smallest looking group would be …
How to tell if there is equal variance in a box plot?
2014年6月1日 · A boxplot illustrates the range and the interquartile range (IQR), both of which are measures of the variation in a data set.

statistics - How is the mean represented in boxplots - Mathematics ...
2019年9月21日 · Normally, boxplots show the sample median (cross-bar inside the box), but not the mean. Sometimes, you can guess the value of the sample mean, but that can be difficult because (other than outliers) exact positions of only five points at most are shown in a boxplot.
How to quantify the skewness of a 2D pressure field?
2019年9月10日 · I made a first version calculating skewness using central moments but this seems to yield some strange behaviour: The skewness changes direction temporarily and flips back and forth when 2 pressure points pass each other. I recorded a GIF of a simulation that shows the problem I'm talking about.
statistics - What "whisker" means in box-and-whisker plot ...
2013年8月10日 · This is a bit off-topic but I can't help thinking about the reason behind naming box-and-whisker plot. "Whisker" according to dictionary is "any of the long stiff hairs that grow near the mouth of a cat, mouse, etc." To me it seems very irrelevant. Why the word "whisker" chose for this particular type of plot.

2014年6月10日 · Then Box-Cox is probably the first thing to try, but the data should be positive-valued. Also, you cannot fix both skew and kurtosis with these, only skew. In fact, I wouldn't rely on skew alone, but make histograms of your transformed variables.
