@Monster I disagree with your characterization of black bears. Black bears in the California Sierra and the Colorado Rockies (the only ones I know well) avoid or retreat from people. The saying among the hikers I knew in CA was that black bears think humans are large animals; brown bears think humans are small animals.

Humans, while a source of food for "City Coyotes", are also a threat to them, and will generally tend to avoid humans. So do your best to limit how much they associate people with food to keep them from wanting to be around people and you increase safety.

2021年8月25日 · On a more general note than the accepted answer, even in places with large populations of potentially dangerous animals, like BC, Canada (estimated 150k black bears, 12k grizzlies, 8500 wolves, 3500 cougars, 100k+ moose) people who get lost and die and people who are killed by animals are not in the same group.
