But, tonight I happened to get caught eating in a place where they had a rodeo bull-riding event on TV, and two of the riders had the most jawdropping real live damn names imaginable.

2024年12月26日 · I actually used my MC's full name in the first paragraph in older novels, but in my current work I don't mention last names at all, until they come up naturally by someone addressing them formally. This can be in the first chapter (WIP2, close 3rd POV) or in the 14th chapter (WIP1, also close 3rd).

2006年12月7日 · The scene headings and character names are all ready designed to stand out. Studio people know they need to pay attention to them. Don't play with the format. Industry people like it just the way it is. Anything out of the ordinary sends up a red flag to a reader. Says you are a novice or a problem child trying to buck the system, or what ever.

2010年11月24日 · Ox - some of the old poets might tell you. Patterson uses the expression "peeler" for general police (from Robert Peel late 1770s - mid 1850s I think) but I think that might be a bit late for you.
