Yoichi Single Malt is a range of single malt expressions from the Yoichi Distillery, Nikka's first distillery built in 1934. The founder Masataka Taketsuru chose the town of Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whisky-making.

On my journey to review a bunch of Japanese whiskey, up next I have Yoichi Single Malt, the non-age-stated and peated single malt Japanese whiskey. Yoichi is one of two Nikka distilleries that produce single malt whiskey, the other being Miyagikyo.

Whether blended with grain whisky or combined with other malts, Yoichi malt serves as the core for creating rich, complex whiskies. One of the key malt whisky (heavy-peat) has become a traditional signature from Yoichi Distillery.

2021年12月7日 · One of Nikka’s two distilleries, Yoichi is a darker, smokier side to the classic Nikka whisky profile. While this maintains some of the traditional fruity and floral notes, Yoichi Single Malt provides a distinctly different experience than its southern Miyagikyo counterpart.

A subtle blend of Yoichi casks of various ages, of which a large portion was matured in ex-sherry casks, the perfect representative of Nikka’s historic single malt expresses a delicate balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas.

The signature bottling from the distillery is the age statementless Yoichi Single Malt, a bold whisky dominated by peat and maritime influences. While smoke and salt are present throughout, they are joined by citrus notes on the nose, and fresh fruit on the palate.
