Almost all of the xiangqi sites and apps I stumbled upon either use a bounty system (so when you run out of cash, come back tomorrow) or are visually repellent (playOK).

2021年4月19日 · In xiangqi too, there is this emphasis on mating too; in addition to technique, a large part of xiangqi training is solving mate problems. These (like in shogi) have every move a check (emphasising attacking speed), but despite this constraint can be very, very difficult to solve and good for training (even the short ones, also the long ones.)

2023年10月10日 · I tend to disagree myself. In terms of game-tree complexity, xiangqi is a lot more difficult than chess. Shogi is a lot more than xiangqi, and Go is a lot more than xiangqi. Part of the reason is that chess only has 64 squares, xiangqi has 90 intersections, shogi has 81 squares (but pieces can respawn), and Go has 19x19 lines = 361 intersections.

2020年11月6日 · I've checked Jim's books, but I'm not sure if any of them suits what I'm looking for. Since there are plenty of apps for practicing puzzles, I'd like a book that shows the main ideas about how to play xiangqi. Right now I feel like almost randomly moving my pieces around the board, with no idea what I'm doing, just paying attention to tactics.

2023年10月2日 · That still sounds very creepy, but I'm intrigued. I was looking for Xiangqi physical computer sets and didn't really find many options. Having an arm moving sounds cool as hell. As for me, I just bring a magnetic set with me places and wave it around sometimes and see if someone gets excited. Works in Taiwan at least.
