The Wasp and Hornet were developed to meet the needs of students with moderate to severe reading and spelling problems, including dyslexia. The reading and spelling skills that they deliver are not based on memory but based on the language itself.
How it works - The Word Wasp
The Word Wasp emphasizes every sound and coaches will be taught to articulate words for spelling. Students are invited to read (decode) words and passages in order that they can see, hear, and build the structures and rules of our language and make a necessary link between spelling and speech.
The Word wasp
The Word Wasp is a comprehensive programme beginning with basic letter sounds before progressing to more complex diphthongs and digraphs. It can be used with students from the age of seven to adult. The programme ends with polysyllabic words of Latin and Greek origin.
Teachers - The Word Wasp
The Hornet and the Word Wasp teach literacy based on the code and cipher of the English language. They should not be separated. Teaching decoding and encoding together is the most dynamic and successful way to foster literacy.
