Founded in 1847 as the nation’s first free public institution of higher education, today CUNY serves more than 240,000 students of all ages and awards 50,000 degrees each year.

Two schools are founded: The Free Academy, later renamed the College of the City of New York, and The Female Normal and High School, opened in 1869 to prepare young women to become teachers. Renamed Hunter College in 1914, it’s the first NYC institution to offer free public higher education to women.

The tables below reflect the average academic profiles of both admitted freshmen and admitted transfer students at each CUNY undergraduate college for the Fall of 2024. This information is helpful as applicants decide which colleges within CUNY are an appropriate academic fit for them.

CUNY’s College Discovery (CD) Program is a two-year opportunity program offered at six community colleges. CD allows students to develop essential skills for academic success and personal growth. Participants are provided with financial assistance, personalized academic guidance, and counseling services.

2023年9月10日 · CUNY offers more than 2,800 top-notch academic programs for degree-seeking students. Undergraduate programs will lead to either an associate or the bachelor’s degree. An associate’s degree requires approximately 60 college credits while a bachelor’s typically requires 120 college credits.

12 College Option credits are required; HOWEVER, students can transfer the College Option credits they earn in a bachelor’s degree program at one CUNY college toward their College Option requirement at any other CUNY college.

Pathways provides a set of General Education Requirements that every student, starting in Fall 2013, must complete to earn an associate in arts (AA), associate in science (AS) or bachelor’s degree from CUNY.
