The Weija Dam was constructed in 1978 with the purpose of supplying water across 20 km to residents of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area. Managed by the Ghana Water Company Limited, the dam supplies about 80% of potable water for Accra and its surroundings.

The dam which was constructed in 1978 has always served as the primary source of water in the Greater Accra Region, supplying up to 80% of water in Accra, unfortunately, it is losing so much even as it’s banks keep closing in.
