X is network transparent, you can display the window, or with XDMCP a complete session, on a terminal while the actual program is running on another, usually more powerful machine. With something like Wayland, the idea for network transparency is gone.

2022年10月28日 · From my experience, the biggest benefit of switching to Wayland is that changing the monitor setup is pretty smooth and seamless, where on Xorg all the monitors go black before coming back with the new setup and windows sometimes get jumbled around. A few other things may be faster or smoother but I get a lot of issues with Wayland.

2023年1月25日 · You can use either of standard Ubuntu (= Ubuntu with Gnome), Kubuntu (= Ubuntu with KDE Plasma) with X11 or with Wayland. If you're on older hardware, KDE Plasma and X11 are probably the safer choice. KDE Plasma because it is more leightweight than Gnome, and X11 because it has been around for longer and supports more older hardware than Wayland.

2024年9月3日 · Shows the "Ubuntu"/"Ubuntu on Wayland" (the same options as in Laptop 1). All laptops are running nvidia driver 560.35.03. Update: I believe this is set by the 61-gdm.rules. As these are all hybrid laptops, I understand Wayland should be preferred, although there is another rule based on the nvidia driver version that should set xorg to preferred.

2024年5月25日 · Xorg used to be X11; with version X.ver11 dating back to 1987.. where network security was somewhat less of a concern than today. X11 may have changed name, but Xorg didn't improve that security model any, and Wayland helps address security issues; alas security can get in the way of desktop sharing!
