Finding Velocity given x and y velocities - Physics Forums
2008年10月26日 · 1. How do you find the velocity of an object if you are given the x and y components of the velocity? 2. Not sure! 3. It makes the most sense to use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the magnitude then trig to find the angle, but I've got a classmate telling me you simply add together the x and y components. Which is it?
Relationship between viscosity and velocity in fluid mechanics
2022年10月31日 · The viscous force within a fluid will depend on the velocity gradient (aka shear rate) within the fluid. That does not mean that the viscosity is a function of velocity. Viscosity is the ratio between the viscous force and the shear rate. As long as viscous force and shear rate have a linear relationship, viscosity will have a single fixed value.
Is velocity ever a scalar quantity? | Page 2 - Physics Forums
2024年12月27日 · I thought velocity was always a vector quantity, one with both magnitude and direction. When it came to the suvat equations, where v = final velocity, and u = initial velocity, I thought both of those were vector quantities, e.g; v (final velocity) 112km/hr North
Velocity Down a Hill Homework: Calculate Final Velocity - Physics …
2012年9月29日 · Homework Statement A San Francisco cable car loses its brakes and runs down a hill 30.4 m high. Calculate the velocity of the car at the bottom of the hill. Homework Equations Height = 30.4 m Time = ? Acceleration due to Gravity …
Physics Forums: Science Discussion, Homework Help, Articles
2025年2月14日 · 'The planetary system is thought to move at least 1.2 million miles per hour, or 540 kilometers per second.' “We think this is a so-called super-Neptune world orbiting a low-mass star at a distance that would lie between the orbits of Venus and Earth if it were in our solar system,” said Sean Terry
How Do You Calculate Closing Velocities and Determine Their …
2016年8月28日 · If I'm not mistaken, the closing velocity is the velocity that the planes get closer to each other. And the closing speed is its magnitude, that is, the rate of change of the distance between the airplanes. If the planes are at positions $\mathbf p_1$ and $\mathbf p_2$ and have velocities $\mathbf v_1$ and $\mathbf v_2$, then the closing ...
Velocity of gases in a flue / stack - Physics Forums
2016年7月18日 · I know the flow rate of gas (products of combustion + air) entering a natural draught (no fans) flue. If the flue is removing all the gas: velocity of flue gas = flow rate (corrected for thermal expansion) / flue csa As the flue gas moves …
Calculating bullet velocity reduction over time - Physics Forums
2015年11月20日 · An M4 with a muzzle velocity of 885 m/s fires a 45 grain 5.56mm round at 50 yards towards its target. Through the physics equations you've provided I've determined that the Kinetic Energy is 930.6 J. I probably require way to many unknown variables to accurately determine the actual penetration of the target.
Dynamics -- Velocity of a Block in a system of Pulleys - Physics …
2017年1月15日 · The system shown starts from rest and each component moves with a constant acceleration. The relative acceleration of block C with respect to collar B is 60mm/s^2 upward and the relative acceleration of block D with respect to block A is 110mm/s^2 downward. Determine the velocity of block C after 6s.
Why is angular velocity perpendicular to the plane of rotation?
2014年5月22日 · Angular velocity is just angular momentum divided by the moment of inertia, I. It is called "velocity" because of the similarity with the relation between linear momentum and velocity. This is imho a misnomer, as the angular "velocity" is oriented perpendicularly to the material velocity.
