UChicago’s seven residence halls are home to 48 Houses—communities of affiliated faculty, staff, and students who live, eat, debate, and play together, not only in rooms but also in shared lounges, dining commons, and intramural sports fields.

New students are randomly assigned to a Residence Hall and House. After each new student’s residence hall and House has been determined, our Occupancy Management Team uses responses to prompts from your housing application to determine your room type and room/suite mate(s) (if applicable).

In Autumn Quarter, residents move into their housing assignment for the year. In October, room change requests open in the myHousing Portal.

Seven residence halls offer students a variety of living options. Each hall takes on a unique culture while maintaining a sense of community. Whether you're tucked away in a neo-gothic quadrangle or gazing out a wide modern window, you'll feel right at home.

The myHousing portal is your hub for many housing-related administrative processes, including applying or re-applying for on-campus housing, requesting a housing assignment change, obtaining a residency verification document and viewing your housing assignment and roommate details - just to name a few!
