I use water buckets a lot to go up and down the deep caves using waterfalls. Of course, night vision potion is great too, but mark your exit. Plan ahead for the dark.

This is gonna be a shorter post than my last one, regarding "Quick Play." Let's start with mobs. As you know/probably know, the only mob that can currently spawn in the Deep Dark is the Warden, but only if summoned.

The first "Deep Dark" I found via the biome compass and when I got there it said it was a deep dark on my mini-map but there was zero skulk or other blocks. I dug out the whole area almost, and every direction I went it changed to a different biome without me …

If you search for an ore, you should get a chart that shows what levels of the Deep Dark have higher percentages of that ore. Use that information to decide. Personally, the way that I manually mine in the Deep Dark is this: Have an RFTools charged porter to escape with at all times dig down until you break out of the "sky"
