Taenite - Wikipedia
Taenite is a mineral found naturally on Earth mostly in iron meteorites. It is an alloy of iron and nickel, with a chemical formula of Fe, Ni and nickel proportions of 20% up to 65%. The name is derived from the Greek ταινία for "band, ribbon". Taenite is a major constituent of iron meteorites.
Taenite | Metallic, Nickel-Iron Alloy | Britannica
Taenite, nickel-iron mineral having a face-centred cubic structure and playing a major role in the crystallization and structure of iron meteorites and stony iron meteorites. It is sometimes referred to as γ iron, after one of the three temperature-dependent forms (allotropes) of …

Kamacite - Wikipedia
Taenite is the nickel rich end member of the kamacite–taenite solid solution. Taenite is naturally occurring on Earth whereas kamacite is only found on Earth when it comes from space. Kamacite forms taenite as it forms and expels nickel to the surrounding area, this area forms taenite.

Excellent mechanical properties of taenite in meteoric iron
2021年2月26日 · Advances in metallographic analysis techniques have revealed that meteoric iron largely comprises kamacite, taenite, and cohenite, which correspond to ferrite, austenite, and cementite in...
Kamacite and Taenite - Steve Dutch
Kamacite and Taenite are the principal iron-nickel alloy minerals in iron meteorites. Taenite is the nickel-rich phase (mnemonic: Taenite contains "ni") with 30 to 70 per cent nickel. Kamacite is the iron rich phase with generally 5-10 per cent nickel.
Taenite-rimmed plessite fields - Meteorites
The result is a submicroscopic, two-phase mixture that gives cloudy taenite its characteristic "cloudy" texture, typically with a nickel content of 30% to 40%. Taenite rims, enriched in high-Ni tetrataenite, can also develop around existing structures like kamacite lamellae or plessite fields.
Taenite γ–(Fe,Ni) Crystal Data: Cubic. Point Group: 4/m 3-2/m. As small plates and grains, fine scales, spherules, and large ellipsoidal masses, to 40 kg; in intergrowths with, or narrow selvages around, kamacite in meteorites.
In Canada, on the Fraser River, Lillooet district, British Columbia. Taenite is found in all octahedrite meteorites which exhibit Widmannst¨atten structures as well as in some nickel-rich ataxites. Name: From the Greek for band or strip, in allusion to its platy structure.
