The Huey TH-1L was the advanced trainer for the US Navy based on the HH-1K (Bell 204 with the 540 rotorhead) used at NAS Ellyson Field and NAS Whiting Field in the 1970s early 1980s mostly by HT-18 squadron. Eight utility aircraft UH-1L were also delivered. They were replaced by the bell TH-57 Sea Ranger

Over 15,000 UH‑1 helicopters were ultimately produced, and many remain on active duty to this day. The aircraft displayed here (TH‑1L) is one of 45 produced for the US Navy for training and rescue duties. This aircraft is available for “adoption” in the Museum’s Adopt-a-Copter program.

Aug 30, 2019 · In 1962, the U.S. Marine Corps selected the turbine-powered H-1 to replaced their piston-engine H-34s. Shortly thereafter, the Navy also began acquiring H-1s, including the TH-1L version for intermediate helicopter training. Over the following decades, several utility and attack versions of the Huey were operated by the Marines and Navy.

There was a TH-1L version of the UH-1L for the Navy to replace the H-34 and the borrowed Army UH-1Ds used in the training role, including for pilot aircraft carrier qualification training.
