Single-wire earth return - Wikipedia
Single-wire earth return (SWER) or single-wire ground return is a single-wire transmission line which supplies single-phase electric power from an electrical grid to remote areas at lowest cost.
One method of providing electrical power in remote rural areas is the Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) system. Rural areas are generally a special case where load units are comparatively small and their points of application widely dispersed. The diagram shows an isolating transformer connected to the sub transmission lines.

2024年3月28日 · Single-wire earth return (SWER) is a low-cost method for distributing single-phase electric power in remote areas. Here's how it works: Basic Principle: Unlike conventional power lines that use two wires (live and neutral), SWER utilizes a …
Distribution earthing systems in LV/MV networks - EEP
2021年6月2日 · 5. Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) Earthing. The Single Wire Earth Return system requires separate and distinct high voltage and low voltage earthing systems. SWER systems consist of a single isolating transformer (typically 100 – 150kV.A, 5 – 8A), and a number of individual SWER distribution transformers.
Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) | Engineering NZ
The Single Earth Wire Return (SWER) is a low cost electrical distribution system. It was developed by New Zealand engineer Lloyd Mandeno in the early 1920s for rural electrification.

2011年2月1日 · A SWER line is a unique distribution line that consists of a single conductor, energized at a relatively high voltage, which uses the earth as a return path for load currents, rather than a dedicated neutral or earth conductor.
Operating a VSD on a SWER line supply is simple but does require some special consideration. This technical notes discusses some of these issues and explains how simple it is to install and setup a ZENER drive on a SWER line supply.
Single Earth Wire Return (SWER) 2 SWER • Electricity distribution method using only one conductor with the return path through earth • Successfully used in NZ, Australia, Canada, India, Brazil, Africa and Asia for sparsely populated areas • Correctly applied, SWER provides an economic supply method for rural electrification and poverty ...
