It was sponsored by Coca-Cola and radio station 2SM and hence called the Coke Surfabout or the Coke/2SM Surfabout. The contest was run in late Autumn, after the Bells Beach Classic at Easter.

Australian professional surfing contest held in Sydney from 1974 to 1999, usually in April at North Narrabeen or Manly Beach; conceived and developed by Sydney newspaper journalist and future world pro tour executive director Graham Cassidy; sponsored by soft-drink giant Coca-Cola.

Thanks to his foresight, promotional capacity, and a soft spot for surfing, two companies were instrumental in establishing the 2SM/Coca Cola Surf about to be run on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Offering a purse more appealing to the Hawaiians, it became Australia’s premier professional event on the international surf calendar.

By 1974 companies like Rip Curl and Coca-Cola sponsored the first Australian professional tour. The contests attracted most of the finest surfers from around the world and created a new high profile for surfing from the beach to the boardroom.

To promote the growing sport of bodyboarding or "boogie boarding" as many called it back then, the company co-sponsored the first Pro Bodyboarding Competition in Hawaii, the "Coca-Cola/SureCraft North Shore Body Board Classic". Over the years, the family continued to build more brands, including Wave Rebel Bodyboards.
