2024年4月28日 · Don't use stucco screws. Use a Multi-Material screw. Choose a length that is long enough to reach the wood behind the stucco. Predrill an appropriate sized hole for the screw. Drilling through the stucco until you hit wood. This will tell you what length screw you need. Aim to get at least 3/4" into wood.

If you wanted to insert machine screws from the back side of the enclosure before mounting it, so that the screws work as threaded posts, that's fine too. If it helps to shim the enclosure so that there's a gap between it and the stucco surface, go ahead.

Neither are particularly strong, but stucco mesh is quite a bit heftier than chicken wire and is specifically designed to 'bite' the scratch coat and keep the stucco in place. It may be overkill, but I'd also put a few stainless screws in whatever mesh you are using (rather than just staples) as staples would eventually rust.

2025年1月20日 · The bottom piece looks like a replacement, possibly a 2x6 cut down to 2x4 poorly. It has warped and pulled away from the wall. I'd remove that piece, clean /cut all the excess caulk away and get a piece of cedar that fits in the space exactly. Secure it to the wall and then caulk the narrow seams between the wood and the stucco.

If you were using a hammer drill with a masonary bit that bit will likely stop when you hit wood. This assumes a concrete type stucco and not an acrylic stucco which I haven't dealt with before. It wouldn't hurt to fill the hole with caulking before mounting the mailbox to the stucco to prevent any water ingress. Good luck.

The four tick marks indicate they are a type called Pozidriv, which is an improvement on the Phillips that has improved engagement and allows more torque. Trying to unscrew Pozidriv screws with a Phillips driver will not work well. With the correct Pozidriv screw driver they will come right out.
