What did archaeologists find in Lake Mungo?
Archaeologists also discovered mounds of shells, known as shell middens. A midden is similar to a rubbish pile and it allows archaeologists to hypothesise about the diet of people from the past. The fact that shell middens were found so far from the ocean, on a dry lake bed, suggest that Lake Mungo once teemed with marine life.
