Stephen Scott (born March 13, 1969) is an American jazz pianist. Scott played piano from the age of five. While attending New York’s High School of the Performing Arts he was introduced to jazz by alto saxophonist Justin Robinson, in particular the music of Wynton Kelly and Red Garland.

Jazz pianist and keyboardist Stephen Scott joined the faculty at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts in Spring 2019. He has secured his membership in what author Stanley Crouch calls, “ the inventive elect.”

Stephen Scott (October 10, 1944 – March 10, 2021) was an American composer best known for his development of the bowed piano.

Starting from this point, American composer Stephen Scott has created a very strong musical personality, thanks to his inventive bowed piano techniques. It's different from the normal piano traditions (say, from Cowell to Cage), and Scott has developed a rich sense of new sounds, exploring the qualities of piano strings.

Scott lived in Colorado Springs with his wife, Victoria Hansen, who toured with the Bowed Piano Ensemble as soprano soloist. Stephen Scott died the morning of Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from complications of dementia.
